Akari, Japan, July 12 (UPI) — With a population of roughly 1.4 million, Tokyo, which has about the same population, has become the country’s third-largest city, surpassing Tokyo, Japan.

The Japanese city has been dubbed “Tokyo for the people” by the countrys top newspaper, the Asahi Shimbun.

With a capital of 2.2 million people, Tokyo has been one of the most populous cities in the world for decades.

But Akari is set to be the second-largest.

Akari has a population size of 1.9 million and is about 25 miles north of Tokyo.

The city of Akari will become home to a total of around 400,000 people.

The number of Japanese who live in Tokyo will more than double to around 11 million by 2050.
