A 34-year-old man who shot and killed his girlfriend in front a child in Akari, Kansas, on Tuesday has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, according to a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kansas.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m.

Tuesday in a residential neighborhood of Akari on the city’s west side, said Lt.

Steve Smith of the Kansas City Police Department.

The man was taken into custody without incident.

Smith said it was unclear whether the man had a history of mental illness.

The complaint did not provide further details.

It did not mention the man’s age or the victim’s name.

The incident comes a week after a man fatally shot his girlfriend, who was visiting her parents, at a Kansas apartment complex.

That case also remains under investigation.

The Kansas City Star reported that the woman had recently moved to the Kansas area.

Her mother said the man lived with his mother in the apartment complex and the couple had recently met.

She said the couple argued recently and that he pulled a gun on her and threatened to kill her.

“I hope that we will never see another person with the mindset of this,” the mother said.

The Star reported Wednesday that the man has been charged with second-degree assault and first-year criminal trespass.

The woman’s family said they do not know the man.
