The Government and the Government of India have launched an initiative to help those affected by the earthquake in Akari, a city on the outskirts of New Delhi.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has set up an emergency centre at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) at a nearby location.

Around 10,000 homes have been affected, with the government’s immediate priority being the rescue of the people and their families, the MoD said in a statement.

At least 11 people have been killed in the earthquake and more than 6,000 have been injured, according to the NDMA.
